The Fearless Vampire Killers (1967)
Directed By: Roman Polanski
Starring : Roman Polanski, Sharon Tate, and Jack MacGowran.
Synopsis: Inquiring Professor Abronsius and his assistant, Alfred, go in search of vampires in a small Transylvanian village. While the two stay at a small Inn, Alfred falls for the Inn-keepers beautiful daughter, Sarah. She, however is kidnapped by Count von Krolock, who happens to be … a vampire! Professor Abronsius and Alfred decide to rescue her from his castle before the unthinkable happens- she, herself, is turned into a vampire. The two are most definitely fearless, but also unfortunately stupid.
First of all, may I say that this is just about the most awesome title for a movie ever. However, it is sad that the actual movie does not convey the same amount of awesomeness.
It’s Saturday night, and what do you do? Of course, watch a movie. And this one just happened to be the one chosen off my 50% full PVR. In all the hype of the amazing title, I expected it to be a better than washing dishes (which I was doing while watching it). About fifteen minuets in I was thinking to myself, that if the title did not have the word ‘Vampire’ in it, I would have no idea what was going on. Described as a 1960′s ‘Horror Spoof’, it fell short of funny. I must admit that it did have its moments though- props for the suggestion of a gay vampire. All in all, the ending was probably the best part of the movie. Not because it was ending, but because of that much needed twist. And I’ll leave you with that.
I give it: 3/5 stars.
I will admit that I did enjoy it far more than recent ‘vampire’ movies (I’m talking to you Edward Cullen).
